Duce—affectionately known as the little yellow rocket—is more than a competition horse. He is a barn favorite, a program staple, and a living embodiment of Guns, Grit ’n Grace at Penley Horsemanship. Since 2017, Duce and Cara Penley have built a partnership that has shaped not only a remarkable competitive résumé, but the very identity of the program.
In the pen, Duce is electric—quick, precise, and fearless—yet always connected to his rider. He brings intensity without chaos, speed without loss of accuracy, and a work ethic that never fades. His runs are sharp and intentional, reflecting years of trust and communication built through countless miles together. When Duce drops in, the standard rises.
That partnership has produced a legacy of wins across the country:
6 State Overall Champion titles (NH, MA, MD, OH, PA)
4 Regional Championships (Northeast, Midwest, South Central)
4 National Titles
2019 L5 Easterns Champion
2022 Ladies AAA Double Down National Champion
2025 L6 Easterns Champion
2025 Eastern Championship – Overall Cowgirl
2022 & 2023 Quarter Horse Congress Champion
What makes Duce truly special goes beyond the scoreboard. He is as generous as he is competitive—honest, willing, and deeply bonded to his rider. He shows up the same way every time: ready, focused, and giving his whole heart. Outside the arena, he’s steady and personable; inside it, he’s all business.
Duce has helped define Penley Horsemanship, proving year after year what’s possible when correct training meets true partnership. He’s the horse that taught lessons, carried dreams, and delivered under pressure—again and again. The bond Duce and Cara share is unmistakable, forged through time, trust, and mutual respect.
Duce represents the soul of Team Penley: Small but mighty. Honest and fearless. Built on trust. Proven by time.
